How to repair a teared sinus membrane?
3d video of Clínica Médico Dental Pardiñas (http://j.mp/cPardinas) on the repair of the sinus membrane (or Schneiderian membrane) by elevating it.
Sinus elevation is a technique used to gain the volume of bone necessary for the placement of dental implants in posterior areas of the maxilla.
During the realization of the lateral window, sometimes the Schneiderian membrane is accidentally perforated. One of the techniques to repair this perforation is to continue with the elevation of the membrane, retracting it on itself and placing an artificial membrane protecting the area below where the bone graft will be placed.
The maxillary sinus is a cavity filled with air and in communication with the nose. When the sinus membrane is accidentally perforated a direct air communication is created from the nose to the oral cavity, which has to be repaired.
Another technique to repair a perforation is the placement of a fibrin membrane obtained from the patient’s own blood that will seal that perforation, allowing the bone graft procedure to be continued and finished.
